We are keen to get public feedback to help create the best proposals for this ambitious plan. We want to allow future users of the National Cycle Network (NCN) to gain insight into the emerging plans and to have their say in influencing how these evolve. The consultation is open from the 4th of May to the 7th of June 2022.
In other sections of this website, you can find lots of additional information on how the plans we are asking for feedback on have been developed and what the process of finalising and delivering the plans will be. In this section you can view the high-level maps we have developed and give your feedback via a survey.
Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA)
A Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is currently being undertaken to inform and influence the development of the NCN. SEA is a mechanism for assessing and communicating the likely effects of an emerging plan, and reasonable alternatives, with a view to achieving sustainable development. To accompany the current consultation on the NCN, an SEA Environmental Report has been prepared and is available for review here.
The consultation period for the NCN Plan and SEA Environmental Report ran until the 7th of June 2022. We would like to thank those who took the time to engage with the proposal over this time. The feedback and submissions received through this public consultation will be considered by the project team and inform the final report expected later this year.
Appropriate Assessment (AA)
Under the European Communities (Birds and Natural Habitats) Regulations 2011, where Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) proposes to adopt a plan or carry out a development that might have significant effects on European sites, it must conduct what is known as an Appropriate Assessment (AA). An AA is an assessment to determine whether a plan or project will have negative effects on European sites, which are sites selected to protect important types of flora, fauna and habitats. Public consultation in respect of the AA of the National Cycle Network Plan is currently ongoing. For details of this public consultation please see TII’s homepage: https://www.tii.ie/
How to use the map
Click the map below to open it in full screen. The key in the top left corner of the map is interactive, and you can click on the different networks to see them displayed. The proposed corridors shown in light blue are part of the NCN plan, on which we are seeking your views. The other networks shown are existing and proposed cycle infrastructure that the NCN will aim to integrate with and are not part of this consultation. Press the ‘Esc’ key to exit full screen and return to the website.
